Last night, we had the opportunity to celebrate the accomplishment of the Living Word Lutheran High School Class of 2021 graduates at the annual Senior Awards night. This graduation class boasts the most diverse range of majors and career paths we have seen in several years at Living Word and we are confident they will go on to live out the school mission of providing a quality Christian education for lifelong leadership and service in God's kingdom.
If their plans come to fruition, the LWLHS Class of 2021 will have a music composer for films and video games, a sports broadcaster, a solider in the US Army, an actuary, several teachers of a wide ranges of subjects and grade levels, several nurses, a realtor, a chiropractor, a powersports technician, a couple pastors, a speech pathologist, an engineer, an architect, a dentist, a few doctors, a music therapist, and interior designer who writes music on the side, a director of parish music, a forensic scientist, a toxicologist, a few counselors, a Pixar animator and character designer, and an entertainment lawyer. When it is all said and done, the 46 graduates from the Class of 2021 will have collectively received over $1.7 million in scholarship money to be used over the next four years!
The awards night highlighted several accomplishments of our seniors, including scholarships for higher education, department, music & sports awards, recognizing members of the National Honors Society, High Honor Roll, Honor Academies, Youth Apprentice Program, and college head start dual credit classes. It was a special evening to honor a very special class!
A few highlights from the evening:
16 students were named on the High Honors Roll where students who maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.75 of higher all four years at Living Word
13 students took at least 12 credits worth of college level courses through our AP, CAPP, and dual credit programs, which is considered a full time load for one semester of college. Three students took over 24 credits worth of college classes which is equivalent of a year's worth of college!
Three students scored in the Top 10% in the nation with their ACT score
Nine student athletes were awarded a Scholar Athlete Awards, which went to the students who had a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher who lettered in at least one varsity sport
21 students were recognized as members of the National Honors Society
We would be remiss if we did not mention the people who have touched the lives of these students: their parents, grandparents, siblings, family members, friends, and mentors; along with their teachers, coaches, and directors who helped guide and mold them with a Christian education at Living Word Lutheran High School. Most importantly, we thank our Lord who is the one who deserves all the praise for the many gifts He blessed the students with and the hearts he has given them for service and we pray nothing but the best as they leave the walls of LWLHS and go out into the world.
